Garnet, Henry (1555-1606)

English Jesuit priest. He joined the Society of Jesus in Italy and acquired a reputation for scholarship, then returned as provost of the Jesuits in England. He was tried on suspicion of being implicated in the Gunpowder Plot, found guilty on somewhat flimsy evidence, and hanged.
