Garonne

River in southwest France, rising in the Vale of Aran on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees and flowing to the Gironde estuary; length 575 km/357 mi. The river is not navigable.

The course of the Garonne is generally northwesterly. In France it passes through the départements of Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne, and Gironde. Its tributaries are the Save, Gers, Tarn, Lot, and Dordogne. It enters the Atlantic via the Gironde estuary. At Toulouse the Canal du Midi links it with the Mediterranean. At Bordeaux it flows between the vineyards of Entre-Deux-Mers and Médoc.

The initial portfolio of assets was modified as Endesa decided to withdraw 243,7 MW nuclear capacity represented by 50% share in Nuclenor (233 MW through its 50% interest in Santa Maria de Garona plant and 10.
Its generation assets will be Electra de Viesgo's former hydroelectric plants; ENDESA's stakes in the nuclear plants of Garona (50%) and Trillo (1%); and the thermoelectric plants in Algeciras), Puentenuevo, Puertollano, Cercs, Escucha and Escatron.
