Gaspé Peninsula

Mountainous peninsula in southeastern Québec, Canada, between the Gulf of St Lawrence and Chaleur Bay, an extension of the Appalachian Mountains; area 29,500 sq km/11,390 sq mi. The central part includes the Shickshock Mountains and the highest point is Mount Jacques Cartier (1,268 m/4,160 ft). There are fishing and lumbering industries, and tourism, paper production, and copper mining are also important.
