Gatesville

Town and administrative headquarters of Coryell County, central Texas; population (1990) 11,500. It is located 60 km/37 mi west of Waco, on the Leon River. The town has varied manufactures and four state prison units. Fort Gates (1849) is 10 km/6 mi to the southeast.
