Gatineau

City in the Outaouais Urban Community, southwest Québec, Canada; population (1991) 92,300. It is situated at the confluence of the Gatineau and the Ottawa rivers, across from Hull and Ottawa. This French-speaking municipality in the National Capital Region is a 1975 amalgamation of seven entities, including Touraine and Templeton. Cement and chemicals are manufactured in this growing, largely residential and commercial suburb.
