Gatting, Michael William (1957– )| Middlesex and England cricketer. He joined Middlesex in 1975 and captained the county from 1983. He was a member of seven championship-winning teams in 1976, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1990, and 1993, and captain of the Sunday League champions in 1992. He first played for England in 1977 and captained England 1986–88. He led an unofficial England tour to South Africa 1989–90, for which he received a three-year ban from Test cricket. He played again for England on the 1994–95 tour of Australia, at the end of which he announced his retirement from Test cricket. In September 1998 he retired from first-class cricket. |
