Gaye, Marvin (1939–1984)

US pop singer and songwriter. His early hits, including ‘Stubborn Kinda Fellow’ (1962), ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine’ (1968), and ‘What's Goin' On’ (1971), exemplified the Detroit Motown sound. He enjoyed a comeback in the early 1980s, with the hit single ‘Sexual Healing’ (1982). Among his albums are the seminal What's Going On (1971) and Let's Get It On (1973).

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
