Gebel, Georg (senior) (1685–c. 1750)

German organist and composer, and a pupil of Tiburtius Winckler in Breslau. He was appointed organist in Brieg in 1709, but in 1713 returned to Breslau, where he became director of music at St Christoph the following year.

Works

Mass for double chorus; motets; cantatas; Passion oratorio; concertos; organ and harpsichord music.

Gebel, Georg (junior) (1709–1755)

German organist, harpsichordist, and composer, and the son and pupil of Georg Gebel senior. He was appointed second organist of St Mary Magdalen in Breslau in 1729, and after apointments in Oels, Warsaw, and Dresden he became Konzertmeister to the court in Rudolstadt in 1747, and Kapellmeister three years later.

Works

over 12 operas (none extant), and large quantities of cantatas, symphonies, chamber music, and keyboard music.
