Geldzahler, Henry (1935–1994)

Belgian-born US museum curator. From 1960 he was on the staff of New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art and became somewhat controversial for his acquisitions of contemporary American art. He was commissioner of cultural affairs for New York City (1978–82), and wrote books on contemporary art. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, he emigrated to the USA, where he studied at Yale and Harvard universities.
