Gelmetti, Gianluigi (1945– )

Italian conductor. He studied in Rome and Vienna, and conducted the RAI Symphony Orchestra at Rome 1980–84, and the Rome Opera 1984–85. He was chief conductor of the South German Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1989, and of the Orchestre Philharmonique of Monte Carlo in 1990. He conducted the premiere of Henze's 7th Symphony in 1984, and led Puccini's Tosca at Venice in 1989, and La Gazza Ladra at Pesaro in 1989. In 1992 he conducted a Rossini double bill at the Ravenna Festival and Tancredi at Bologna.
