US space programme (1965–66) in which astronauts practised rendezvous and docking of spacecraft, and working outside their spacecraft, in preparation for the Apollo project Moon landings.

Gemini spacecraft carried two astronauts and were launched by Titan rockets. Flights were designated by the double name Gemini-Titan.

The meeting of Gemini 7 with Gemini 6 in 1965 was the first rendezvous between two spacecraft.

Although it began with a failure - Apollo 1 burned on the launch pad killing its three astronauts including Gus Grissom of the Gemini project - the Apollo program was largely successful.
The GEMINI project produced over 100 scientific publications (and two patents), and a special issue of Biochimica et Biophysica Acta in December 2003.
