Generali, Pietro (1773–1832)

Italian composer. He studied under Giovanni Masi in Rome and in 1802 produced his first opera there. In 1817–21 he conducted opera in Barcelona, Spain, and later became maestro di cappella at Novara Cathedral, Italy.

about 60 operas, including Gli amanti ridicoli, Il duca Nottolone, La villana in cimento, Le gelosie di Giorgio, Pamela nubile (after Richardson, via Goldoni's comedy, 1804), La calzolaia, Misantropia e pentimento (after Kotzebue), Gli effetti della somiglianza, Don Chisciotte (after Cervantes), Orgoglio ed umiliazione, L'idolo cinese, Lo sposo in bersaglio, Le lagrime di una vedova (1808), Adelina (1810), La moglie giudice del marito, I baccanali di Roma (1816), and Francesca da Rimini (after Dante).
