Genk

Town in the province of Limbourg, Belgium, 14 km/9 mi east of Hasselt; population (2001 est) 63,100. The town's chief employer is the Ford Motor Company, which has a car-assembly plant here. The Limbourg coalfield provides employment in Genk and surrounding villages, but the mining industry has been in decline since the 1960s and there is high unemployment in the area.
