Genoveva

Opera by Robert Schumann (libretto by the composer, altered from one by R Reinick based on the dramas of Tieck and Hebbel), first produced in Leipzig, Germany, on 25 June 1850. In the story, Genoveva's husband Siegfried departs for battle and entrusts his castle to Golo, who loves Genoveva. After being rejected, he frames her for adultery and is about to execute her, when Siegfried returns and the couple are reconciled.
