Genzmer, Harald

Genzmer, Harald (1909–2007)

German composer. His compositions include choral, orchestral, and chamber pieces. He taught composition at the Hochschule für Musik at Freiburg im Breisgau 1946–57, and was appointed professor at the Munich Hochschule in 1957.

He studied first in Marburg and later with Paul Hindemith in Berlin. As well as a number of major concert works, he composed many pieces for educational purposes and endorsed the accessibility of music.

Works

the cantata Racine (1949); Mass in E; symphony no. 1, Bremen symphony; concertos for piano, cello, oboe, flute (2), trautonium (2); two string quartets; sonatas for violin, flute, and other chamber music.
