Sutherland, George (1862–1942)

English-born US Supreme Court justice who went to the USA at age two. A Republican, he served in the US House of Representatives for Utah; 1901–03, and the Senate 1905–17. President Harding appointed him to the US Supreme Court 1922–38, where he frequently voted against New Deal measures.

He was born in Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, England. He was a member of Utah's first legislature in 1896.
