George VI (1895–1952)

King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from 1936, when he succeeded after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII, who had succeeded their father George V. Created Duke of York in 1920, he married in 1923 Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (1900–2002), and their children are Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. During World War II, he visited the Normandy and Italian battlefields.

The late and much-loved Queen Mother, the widow of Queen Elizabeth's father, George VI, seems have started this trend.
Her husband, King George VI, became Britain's monarch in 1936.
He won three major races in a row in the summer - the Coronation Cup at Epsom, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot by five lengths under 133 pounds and Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown by nine under 130 - before finishing ninth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on the kind of ``heavy'' turf he detests.
