Gharbiya

Governorate in northern Egypt, in the River Nile delta between the Damietta and Rosetta branches; area 1,942 sq km/750 sq mi; population (1995 est) 3,437,000. The capital is Tanta. Gharbiya is primarily a cotton-growing region and contains some of the largest spinning and weaving plants in Egypt.

The first incident occurred in the village of Tura al Gharbiya, near Jenin, in the early hours of 19 January 2009.
The truck owners had clashed with police who tried to disperse them in the Nile Delta province of Gharbiya, the official said.
