Gharbiya

Governorate in northern Egypt, in the River Nile delta between the Damietta and Rosetta branches; area 1,942 sq km/750 sq mi; population (1995 est) 3,437,000. The capital is Tanta. Gharbiya is primarily a cotton-growing region and contains some of the largest spinning and weaving plants in Egypt.
