Ghawar

Oilfield in Saudi Arabia near the Gulf coast, extending for about 210 km/130 mi from Ain Dar, west of Abqaiq. The largest single oilfield in the world, it was first drilled in 1936. In 1959 a plant for the production and conservation of natural gas came into operation here. Ghawar contains an estimated 60 million barrels of oil.

The Ghawar field has been the backbone of Saudi production for many decades.
Simmons says that a few "super giant" oil fields in Saudi Arabia (including the massive Ghawar field, the world's largest, discovered in 1953) account for 92 percent of the country's crude oil output, and that these fields are aging and suffering from rising "water cut.
The Ghawar oilfield in Saudi Arabia, discovered in the 1940s, is by itself still producing 7 percent of the world's oil.
