Ghawar

Oilfield in Saudi Arabia near the Gulf coast, extending for about 210 km/130 mi from Ain Dar, west of Abqaiq. The largest single oilfield in the world, it was first drilled in 1936. In 1959 a plant for the production and conservation of natural gas came into operation here. Ghawar contains an estimated 60 million barrels of oil.
