Ghedini, Giorgio Federico (1892–1965)| Italian composer. He made editions of music by Monteverdi, the Gabrielis, and Frescobaldi. He studied at Turin and Bologna, at first intending to be a conductor. He later taught at the conservatories of Turin, Parma, and Milan, but eventually devoted himself to composition. |
| Ghedini was born in Cuneo, Piedmont. He studied at Milan Conservatory, where he eventually became director. A follower of Alfredo Casella, his best orchestral pieces are among the neoclassical works which come closest to the spirit of the Italian instrumentalism of Vivaldi's lifetime. He wrote the opera, Billy Budd (after Melville), in 1949, but is most renowned for his orchestral pieces such as Partita (1926), Architetture (1940), and Concerto dell' albatro (1945). |
