Gheorghiu, Angela (1965- )

Romanian soprano. She graduated from Budapest Academy in 1990 and sang Zerlina at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1992; she has since returned to London as Mimi, Liu, Nina in Chérubin, and Violetta in a new production of La Traviata (1994). She made her debuts at the Vienna Staatsoper and the New York Metropolitan Opera House as Adina and Mimi, and spent the 1995 season as Gounod's Juliette in Washington, DC. She is regarded as the most promising lyric soprano of her generation.
