Giannini, Vittorio (1903–1966)

US composer, brother of Dusolina Giannini. He studied at the Juilliard School, New York, with Rubin Goldmark and taught there from 1939; he taught at the Curtis Institute from 1956. His music reflects his Italian ancestry.

Lucedia (1934), The Scarlet Letter (1938), Beauty and the Beast (1938), The Taming of the Shrew (1953), The Harvest (1961), The Servant of Two Masters (1967).

Orchestral

symphony In Memoriam Theodore Roosevelt (1935) and four numbered symphonies; three divertimenti; piano concerto (1937).
