Gibbs, C(ecil) Armstrong (1889–1960)

English composer. He was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied music with Edward Dent, and later at the Royal College of Music in London, where he became a professor of composition.

incidental music to Maeterlinck's The Betrothal (1921); comic opera The Blue Peter (A P Herbert, 1923); play with music Midsummer Madness (Clifford Bax); Nativity play The Three Kings.

cantata The Birth of Christ (1929), Passion according to St Luke, choral symphony Odysseus; La Belle Dame sans merci (Keats, 1928), The Highwayman (Alfred Noyes), and Deborah and Barak for chorus and orchestra.
