Gibraltar, siege of

During the American Revolution, an unsuccessful Franco–Spanish blockade of the British-held fortress of Gibraltar June 1779–February 1783. The siege inflicted great hardship: few supply ships were able to run the blockade and the residents came close to starvation several times.
