Gilbert, Anthony (1934– )

English composer. He studied at Morley College under Anthony Milner and Walter Goehr. He has taught in Manchester and London and has worked as a music editor.

The Scene Machine, one-act opera (produced Kassel, 1971).

Sinfonia for chamber orchestra (1965), Regions for two chamber orchestras (1969), Symphony (1973), Towards Asavari for piano and small orchestra (1978), Dream Carousels for wind orchestra (1988).

Vocal

Cantata (1972), The Chakravaka Bird song drama for radio (1977), Beastly Jingles for soprano and ensemble (1984), Certain Lights Reflecting for soprano and orchestra (1989), Upstream River for narrator and ensemble (1991).

Chamber

Vasanta with Dancing for chamber ensemble (1981), two string quartets (1986–87), Tree of Singing Names for chamber orchestra (1989, revised 1993).
