Gilbert, Kenneth (1931– )

Canadian harpsichordist and organist. He studied in Paris with Duruflé and Gustav Leonhardt, was a church organist in Montreal 1955–67, and taught at the conservatory there 1957–74. He was professor of harpsichord at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Paris Conservatory from 1988. He made his London debut in 1968 and has given many performances of the Baroque keyboard masters, notably Couperin and Scarlatti, whose works he has edited, respectively, in four volumes (1969–72) and 11 volumes (1971–85). He also plays Bach, Byrd, and Froberger.
