Gilson, Etienne Henry (1884–1978)

French philosopher. He studied medieval philosophy, through which he became deeply influenced by Thomas Aquinas, and contributed to the philosophy of neo-Thomism. His works include L'Esprit de la philosophie médiéval/The Spirit of Medieval Philosophy 1932.

Gilson was born in Paris. He taught there at the Sorbonne from 1921 and later at the Collège de France. From 1945 he spent much time at the University of Toronto, Canada.
