Gines Pérez, Juan (1548–1612)

Spanish composer. He held a church appointment in his native town at the age of 14. He was maestro di cappella and director of the choir school at Valencia 1581–95. In 1595 he returned home as canon at Orihuela Cathedral.

Works

motets, psalms; secular Spanish songs; contributions to the Mystery play performed annually at Elche, near Alicante.
