Giornovichi, Giovanni (Mane) (c. 1740–1804)

Italian violinist and composer. He was possibly a pupil of Lolli, and made his first appearance at the Concert Spirituel in Paris in 1770. Having lived in Paris, Berlin, Austria, Russia, and Sweden, he went to London in 1791, but left for Hamburg in 1796, and then St Petersburg in 1802. He wrote 17 violin concertos, three string quartets, and much music for the violin.
