Giovanna d'Arco

Opera by Verdi (libretto by T Solera, based on Schiller's drama Die Jungfrau von Orleans), first produced at La Scala, Milan, Italy, on 15 February 1845. It describes how Joan rallies the troops of the defeated Charles VII of France. Although denounced as a follower of Satan by her father, Giacomo, she goes on to save the day, but falls in battle.
