Gisenyi

Town in western Rwanda on the northern tip of Lake Kivu, 100 km/62 mi west of Kigali on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo; population (1991) 21,900. Industries include minor port activities, fishing, and petroleum storage, with local financial and banking services also important. Agricultural activities were severely disrupted by conflicts between Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups in the mid-1990s.

The Anglican Church in Rwanda and the Lutheran World Federation are distributing food and non-food items at two sites established by Rwandan authorities, Ruhengeri and Gisenyi.
She was the director of the Centre Saint Pierre in Gisenyi, where she and her sisters sheltered Tutsi refugees during the genocide.
In March one such band attacked the health centre in Gisenyi, 100 kilometres from the Rwandan capital Rigali, killed 20 lay persons and kidnapped seven nuns.
