Giugiaro, Giorgio (1938- )

Italian industrial designer. He established himself internationally as an independent automotive designer with his Volkswagen Golf car in 1973, the popular successor to the Beetle. He went on to create other memorable automotive designs as well as a large number of diverse products, including cameras for Nikon in the late 1970s. His design for a pasta shape in 1983, dubbed ‘Marielle’, confirmed his role as a universal ‘form-giver’.
