Gläser, Franz (1798-1861)

Bohemian composer. He studied in Prague, and was appointed conductor at the Leopoldstadt Theatre in Vienna in 1817, at the Josephstadt Theatre in 1822, and at the Theatre an der Wien in 1827. He later worked in Berlin and Copenhagen. He wrote mainly operas, for example Des Adlers Horst (1832), Bryllupet ved Como-Søen (after Manzoni's Promessi sposi, 1849) and two other Danish operas.
