Muir Glacier

Large ice sheet in southeast Alaska, with 905 sq km/350 sq mi of surface area, discharging into Glacier Bay on the Pacific coast of southeast Alaska. It was explored in 1880 by John Muir, a Scottish immigrant who spearheaded the conservation movement. Earthquake disturbances dislodged part of the glacier 1899. It lies within Glacier Bay national park.
