Glacier National Park

National park in the Selkirk Mountains, British Columbia, Canada, established 1930 (although a much smaller area was designated in 1886); area 1,350 sq km/521 sq mi.

The park lies in an inhospitable mountain region of steep descents and narrow valleys. There are over 400 glaciers, and 12.5% of the park is permanently covered in snow or ice. It contains Mount Dawson (3,383 m/11,100 ft) and is crossed by Rogers Pass. Low levels are forested and bears are common; tourism is limited due to the area's inaccessibility.
