Glaz, Herta (1908-2006)

Austrian contralto. She made her debut in Breslau in 1931, but fled Germany in 1933 and toured as a concert singer before visiting the USA in 1937, where she appeared at Los Angeles under Klemperer in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde/The Song of the Earth and Bach's St Matthew Passion. She sang at Chicago 1940-42, and made her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut in December 1942. She retired in 1962.
