Glaz, Herta (1908–2006)

Austrian contralto. She made her debut in Breslau in 1931, but fled Germany in 1933 and toured as a concert singer before visiting the USA in 1937, where she appeared at Los Angeles under Klemperer in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde/The Song of the Earth and Bach's St Matthew Passion. She sang at Chicago 1940–42, and made her New York Metropolitan Opera House debut in December 1942. She retired in 1962.
