Glen Ellen

Small town in Sonoma County, northwest California; population (1990) 1,200. It is situated in the Valley of the Moon, in the Sonoma Mountains, 64 km/40 mi north-northeast of San Francisco. A noted winery centre, it was the home of US novelist Jack London 1905–16; London died here having immortalized the area in his 1913 novel The Valley of the Moon. In the Jack London State Historic Park, the House of Happy Walls, built by his widow, is now a museum housing the writer's memorabilia.
