Glickman, Daniel

    0.02 sec.

Glickman, Daniel (1944– )

US politician. A democratic congressman, he served in the US House of Representatives 1977–95 and as secretary of agriculture under President Bill Clinton 1995–2001. After directing Harvard University's Institute of Politics 2002–04, he replaced film executive Jack Valenti as president and chief executive officer of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) in 2004.

As a congressman he served as a member of House Agriculture Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, as well as chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; as agriculture secretary he handled international trade negotiations. At the MPAA his priority was to fight film piracy through international agreements and more stringent domestic anti-piracy laws.

He was born and grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1966 and his law degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC, in 1969. He worked for the US Securities and Exchange Commission 1969–70 as well as in private practice.
