Gloucester County

County in southwest New Jersey; area 847 sq km/327 sq mi; population (1990) 230,100. It is bordered by the Delaware River to the northwest. Its administrative headquarters is Woodbury. There is substantial suburban residential and industrial development in its northeast corner, particularly around Woodbury, an area close to Philadelphia and Camden. Industries include canning and the manufacture of clothing, building materials, electrical parts, chemicals, and glassware. In addition, there are many truck, dairy, and fruit farms throughout the county.

Gloucester County

County in southeast Virginia; area 583 sq km/225 sq mi; population (1990) 30,100. Its administrative headquarters is Gloucester. It is situated in the Tidewater region on the north shore of the York River. Gloucester County is largely agricultural, and has some fisheries. Gloucester Point, across the James River from Yorkstown, is the largest community in the county; population (1990) 8,500. Other communities include Gloucester Courthouse; population (1990) 2,100.
