Glover, Jane (1949- )

English conductor and musicologist. She studied at Oxford University, where she wrote a doctoral thesis on Francesco Cavalli, which was later published as a book. She made her professional debut as a conductor at the Wexford Festival, Ireland, in 1975, with her own edition of Cavalli's Eritrea.

She started her Glyndebourne career as chorus mistress, then as conductor on tour 1982-85, conducting Don Giovanni at the Festival in 1982. She was artistic director of the London Mozart Players 1984-92, and made her Covent Garden debut in 1988 with Mozart's Die Entführung. In 1989 she conducted the English National Opera's production of Don Giovanni, and in 1992 Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida.
