Glueck, Sheldon (1897-1980)

Polish-born US criminologist. A pioneer in the study of crime and juvenile delinquency, he and his wife Eleanor Glueck wrote scores of articles and books on criminal law and prison practices. Glueck was born in Warsaw, Poland, and emigrated to the USA at the age of six. He served as an ordnance sergeant in the American Expeditionary forces (World War I). In 1950 he became the first Roscoe Pound professor of law at Harvard University, and in 1963 was named professor emeritus at Harvard.
