Glyptodon

Genus of fossil armadillo-like mammals of order Edentata found in the Pleistocene deposits of South America. They were characterized by their great size and by thick, solid carapaces, which in some cases were nearly 2 m/6.5 ft long; the head and tail were sheathed in bony plates.
