Godard, Benjamin (Louis Paul) (1849–1895)| French composer. In 1878 he tied with Théodore Dubois in gaining the prize in a competition organized by the municipality of Paris with the dramatic symphony Le Tasse for solo voices, chorus, and orchestra. In 1885 he established a series of ‘modern concerts’ without success. |
| He studied violin and composition at the Paris Conservatory, and became a viola player in chamber music. |
