Godfather, The

Trilogy of US films made 1972–90 focusing on the Corleone family, a Sicilian family in New York. Based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel The Godfather the films were directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and defined the ‘gangster’ genre.

Phenomenally successful, The Godfather (1972) won three Academy Awards and The Godfather Part II (1974) won seven. The third film, The Godfather Part III, was released in 1990. Actors appearing in the films include Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, James Caan, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton.
