Goodwin Sands

Sandbanks off the coast of Kent, England, about 10 km/6 mi east of Deal, exposed at low tide, and famous for wrecks. According to legend, they are the remains of the island of Lomea, owned by Earl Godwin in the 11th century.

They are divided into the North and South Goodwins, between which is the deep inlet of Trinity Bay. There are three lightships off the Goodwin Sands, and numerous lighted and unlighted buoys.
