Goetel, Ferdynand (1890-1960)

Polish novelist and travel writer. His work includes short stories, such as ‘P̧tnik Karapeta/The Pilgrim Karapeta’ 1924; novels, such as Kar-Chat/The Messenger of the Snow 1923 and Serce lodow/Heart of Ice 1930; and a volume of memoirs, Czasy wojny 1955.

During World War I, Goetel was a prisoner in Turkestan. He escaped through Persia and India, and returned to Poland. After World War II he was accused of collaborating with the Germans, left Poland, and died destitute in London.
