Gojam

Former province in northwest Ethiopia, now part of the Amhara and Benshangal regions, situated between the Blue Nile and Lake Tana. Much of the region is forested plateau. The main agricultural products include livestock, grain, cotton, coffee, and honey. The main town is Debre Markos.

The region's isolation led to the development of a powerful medieval kingdom which together with Shewa province formed the basis of the modern Ethiopian state.
