US silent-screen comedy of 1925 in which Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp fights against the odds in the Klondike gold rush of 1898. Famous scenes include the starving Chaplin cooking and eating his boots, and the log cabin teetering on the brink of a frozen abyss. The film was written and directed by Chaplin.
