Goldberg, Reiner (1939– )

German tenor. He studied in Dresden and made his debut there in 1966. He joined the Dresden Opera in 1973 and visited Tokyo with the company in 1980. In 1982 he made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as Walther. He has visited Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, and Leningrad in the roles of Bacchus, Max, and Siegmund. He sang the title role on the soundtrack of the Syberberg film version of Parsifal, while the part was being mimed onscreen by a woman. He sang Walther at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in 1990, and Florestan and Tannhäuser at the New York Metropolitan Opera House in 1992. He recorded Strauss's Guntram in 1985.
